Born Oct. 2, 1878, at Concord. Parents: John Lawson and Mary Ruth (Walker) Pless. Educated: N.C. Coll., A.B. 1901; Southern Sem., 1904; Chicago Sem., B.D. 1912. Married Hallie Kate Miller, Rowan Co., May 3, 1904. Children: Charles Miller, the Rev. John Albert, Paul David. Ordained 1904 by N.C. Synod. Churches served: Mt. Zion-Luthers-New Bethel, Richfield, 1904-1907; St. Michael, Troutman-Amity-St. Paul, Iredell Co., 1907-09; St. Andrew-Mt. Hermon, Concord, 1909-11; St. John-Cold Water, Cabarrus Co., 1912-15; Union, Rowan Co., 1915-18; Wittenberg-Emmanuel, Granite Quarry, 1918-22; St. James, Rockwell, 1919-22; St. Luke-Pilgrim, Davidson Co., 1922-30; St. Luke-Morning Star, Monroe, 1930-34; again St. Luke-Pilgrim, Davidson Co., 1934-40. Retired 1940 on account of ill health, at Kannapolis. Died July 1, 1962; buried in Carolina Memorial Park, Concord.
